Slavery – no excuse for ignorance

I cannot believe people who say they did not learn when growing up about slavery and Wilberforce.

At school and Sunday school in the 50s and 60s in England and Wales and in state and private schools (I was a RAF brat and moved around) I learned about slavery and its abolition. In the 70s I learned about slavery and the Somerset case at college and the BBC had a major drama series called “The Fight Against Slavery” that showed the roles in the fight of blacks and whites, but at the time it was somewhat overshadowed by “Roots”. In the 80s, 90s, and 00s, my children’s text books have slavery, Equiano, Wilberforce and the others.

There really is no excuse for ignorance!
